During the program, participants learn the stages in the negotiation process through a concise, step-by-step model. This behavioral model is then applied in practice negotiations where participants negotiate using newly learned skills. Participants learn how to 1) create a collaborative, value-based relationship, 2) discover the real problem (rather than dealing with symptoms), 3) establish criteria for discussion, 4) generate options, 5) obtain closure, 6) sustain a long-term partnership, and 7) counter hard negotiation moves.
By the end of the program, participants operate with a flexible and powerful model that is highly effective for group negotiations, one-on-one interactions, as well as single or multiple issue situations. The principled negotiation skills learned are invaluable in resolving any type of conflict.
